HORSEBACK EXPEDITION

5–6 Day Horseback Expedition to Kel-Suu Lake

Starting from Naryn, we travel to the trailhead and continue on horseback toward Kel-Suu Lake. Expect 5–6 hours of riding per day and altitude changes across 2000–3500 m, with unforgettable mountain views along the way. The program includes yurt accommodation (5 nights), full meals during the tour, an experienced horseman, and an extra horse for luggage. Border permits are included as well, and for extra comfort we recommend bringing your own sleeping bag.

What travelers say about our tours

Kezgin Guesthouse arranged the most amazing 7-day horse trek for us! We rode from Ak Muz - a small village near Naryn - to Kel Suu - a stunning alpine lake. We asked for a non-touristique, off-the-grid, challenging horse trek, and that was exactly what we got. Under the great guidance of Zhyldyzbek we saw the most wonderful nature in south Kyrgyzstan: rivers, plains, pastures, lakes, mountain peaks and beautiful flowers. Our guide was an amazingly kind person, a tremendous horseman and guide, and a great spotter of animals (we saw marmots, jaks and eagles). Because our guide was local, we were able to sleep in real shepherd yurts, not pre-arranged touristy ones. Though the itinerary was mapped out beforehand, we occasionally had to deviate due to weather conditions, which really gives a relaxed flow to the journey if you give into it. We rode through sunny pastures as well as on snowy mountain tops. Zhyldyzbek always took good care of us and made sure we were okay. He is very patient, kind, and always in a good mood, even if you make a mistake. We loved that he gave us the freedom and confidence to take the lead in riding our own horses (not lining them up one after the other). We were happy that we had some horse riding experience. In the evenings, we were hosted by the most friendly families and served very nice dinners in yurts. This is was a real ecotourism experience because you really interact and support only local people. In the first 5 days, we did not see any other tourists. This is not a horsetrek with a horse on autopilot so it’s useful to have a little experience to be able to steer your own horse. If you love untouched nature, are up for a challenge, and are comfortable with sometimes harsh conditions without too much luxury, this is the trip for you! Kezgin is an amazing guesthouse and the people are very friendly. They speak very good English which is a big plus. They completely arranged this trip and they exactly tailored it to our needs. They priced the trip very well (also compared to other trips we saw online) and made sure that the money would go directly to our guide and his horses. If you have any questions for a similar (or different) itinerary, we would recommend reaching out to them directly - we are sure they can tailor it to your request as they did for us.
